Major of the Chalmette Regiment, Louisiana Volunteer State Troops Militia Infantry Captured during the fall of New Orleans in 1862 Major & Adjutant of the 2nd Louisiana Heavy Artillery (1836-1901) Born in New Orleans, he served as Major in the Chalmette Regiment, Volunteer State Troops Militia Infantry, and was captured during the fall of New Orleans in April 1862, and later exchanged. He then served as Major & Adjutant of the 2nd Louisiana Heavy Artillery. Organized in the fall of 1863, the unit was under heavy bombardment by Union gunboats at Harrisonburg, La., they saw action against General N.P. Banks' Army during the Red River campaign, and operated near Columbia, Pineville, Alexandria and Natchitoches, La. They were disbanded near Mansfield, La., in May 1865. Wet plate, albumen carte de visite photograph, mounted to 2 3/8 x 4 card. Full standing view wearing a double breasted Confederate frock coat, kepi, rectangular belt plate, and sash. Studio pose with arm resting on a large column. No imprint. Signed in period ink on the reverse, Eugene Soniat. Scattered chipping to the surface of the image including his face. Very scarce.

This antique pendant of 14K patterned gold is set with a genuine coral cabochon. It is 11/16 high (not including bail or ring) and 1/2 wide The 10mm high coral stone has swirls of several orange-sherbet tones. The pendant is not marked but we have tested and warrant it to be 14K gold. The fine chain of elongated links is a later addition. It is 18 long and has a spring-ring clasp. The tag is stamped 14K G.F. Condition is very fine.
