Very interesting piece of Victorian Overshot glass in what has come to be known as the "grotesque" style because of all the lumps and bumps in the design. Probably a centerpiece bowl, or fruit server . The oval shaped piece measures 9 3/4 long x 7 1/2 wide x 5 1/4 high. Graceful Art Nouveau style maidens, which remind one of mastheads, form the handles and the rim has the appearance of lace edging. The rim is marked Rogers Bros Triple Plate and bears a mark, a facsimile of which is pictured. Overshot glass was made primarily in New England from mid to late 19th century, although we cannot be sure exactly where our piece was done. The bowl alone weighs almost 4 lbs., and with double boxing, priority mail will be determined by final shipping weight and buyers location, plus $6.00, of course. |
