Antique Amber Chemical Bottle Nelson Baker & Co.
Exceptionally nice antique amber chemical or pharmaceutical bottle from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Embossed with Nelson Baker & Co./Manufacturing Chemists/Detroit, Mich. U.S.A. The Nelson Baker & Co. was incorporated in 1889. Unable to determine how long the company remained in business, but the 1908 "Book of Detroiters" by Albert Nelson Marquis lists Edwin Horatio Nelson as president of Nelson Baker & Co. (page 341) and William S. Baker as treasurer and director (pages 43 and 44). One interesting note I found in my research is the Nelson Baker & Co. is listed as one of the companies on the "Index of Pre-1937 Medical Cannabis Manufacturers". Cannabis is today known as Medical Marihuana.

This very large empty Nelson Baker & Co. chemical bottle is a 2-mold bottle with the seams going to about one-half inch below the lip. The top rim is smooth and the bottom is concave with no pontil. This heavy bottle, weighing 2 lbs. 12 oz. without packaging, is in fantastic condition, especially when you consider it is around 100 years old - no nicks, chips or cracks and only minimal surface scratches. The bottle is very shiny and has lots of neat bubbles! Very clean – just a few minor spots I was not able to reach.

Circa: Late 1890s-Early 1900s
Size: Height: 12" High x 4 ¾" square

3 Vintage Amber Bottles Medicine, Lysol and Plain
3 Vintage amber bottles – one amber Lysol Bottle, one amber Medicine Bottle, and one amber plain bottle.

. The amber Medicine bottle on the left is marked with 50 through 250 MILS on the side and "7, an I in an oval, 0, 17-1845".
. The Lysol bottle has Lysol in cursive script embossed four times around the shoulder of the bottle. Bottom is marked "Lysol Incorporated Bloomfield, NJ Made in USA" and "Bottle Made in U.S.A." with a triangle in the center.
. The lighter colored amber bottle on the right has no markings or embossing but a very interesting little bottle, definitely made from older glass and has a number of desired bubbles in the glass. Depending from which angle you view the little amber bottle, it is very crooked. It does have a chip on the top rim.

The amber Medicine Bottle and the Lysol bottle have no nicks, chips or cracks but there is some staining or sediment on the interior of the Medicine Bottle and on the interior and exterior of the Lysol bottle. The plain amber bottle does have a chip on the top rim. All three bottles require a cork or a stopper. Price is for all three amber bottles.

Size: Heights: 6 1/4 in., 7 1/4 in., 6 3/4 in.
Color: Amber
Type: Bottle
Country of Origin: US
Manufacturer: Lysol
