Vintage typewritten letter approximately 6 x 7, addressed to Kaleria Fedicheva (infamous ballerina of the Russian Kirov Ballet), signed Edward Biberman, and in good condition
Edward Biberman, American artist (1904-1986). Subjects were portraits, and urban and natural landscapes. During his long career he had more than 35 solo exhibitions in the United States and Europe, and wrote two books about his paintings. He also taught at the Art Center College in Pasadena from 1938-1950. Meetings in New York with Mexican muralists Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros and Jose Clemente Orozco during the Great Depression influenced him to question the relevance of his paintings and to become a champion of public murals. However, it wasn't until after his move to Los Angeles in 1936 that Biberman won his first two mural commissions both for the downtown Los Angeles Federal Building. When the building was remodeled in 1965, the murals were removed and placed in storage.
In part...The announcement of my new exhibition of paintings may interest you. This is all work done in the past three years, and is being held in the same gallery where I met you.....In fact, the photograph you took was made just outside the entrance....If you had been here for the opening you would have found it very interesting. There were several hundred people who came for the private opening, and the next day the exhibition was open to the public....
