Sebastian Motif #1 Plate by Prescott W. Basto
This beautiful porcelain plate with pewter rim is the First Edition Plate in the series America's Favorite Scenes; issued by Sebastian Miniatures and Artist signed on the back by Prescott W. Baston. According to Dr.Glenn Johnson's Book, The Sebastian Miniature Collection. Prescott W. Baston had designed large and miniature figurines, plaques and even Christmas Ornaments. He had never before produced a Sebastian Miniature Plate. In February 1978, a snowstorm had destroyed Motif #1, the Rockport Massachusetts fishing shack reputed to be the most painted scene in America. Baston had sold his own Motif #1 miniature since 1950. The Rockport Artists League asked him to contribute his talents to raise funds for restoring the famous building. He created a bas relief portrait of the Rockport scene, cast it in bonded porcelain, and Lance cast it with fine pewter. Issued as a limited edition of 10,000, the sales resulted in a substantial contribution to the League and the building was soon restored. Of the 10,000 only 4,878 were made. Mint in it's original box the plate in rich colors of brown, orange, red, green and greys is numbered #219 and measures 8 7/8 inches in diameter.
