Circa: 1920 Manufacturer: Nippon/Made in Japan
This vintage floral oval relish dish is marked with the cherry blossom mark: Hand Painted / Nippon in blue. Antique Nippon porcelain, as this china was called during the period from the 1890's through the early 1920's, denoted country of origin rather than products from a specific manufacturer. Nippon is the anglicized word for Japan or land of the rising sun. After the early 1920's, the more English Made in Japan began to appear, mandated by The United States requirement of Japan instead of Nippon for the sake of clarity for American readers. However, other countries made no such demand, and Nippon appears on many products after that date. Very colorful with yellow, blue, green and orange flowers on a white porcelain background with a blue band around the rim, open end handles and gold trim. In very good condition, without chips, cracks or fleabites it measures 1 1/8 inches high, 8 inches long and 4 1/4 inches wide. An addition to any Nippon Porcelain Collection. SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions contact me and thank you for looking. |
