This parakeet figurine still has the Viking Hand Made label on the back.
In 1944 the Viking Glass Company (known for Swedish styled glassware) acquired the New Martinsville Glass Manufacturing Company. The key advantage here was that Viking sold mostly pressed glassed, while New Martinsville had a hand-made line known for quality.
The firm closed its doors in 1998.
Made of solid glass, the birds breast, tail feathers, flowers and leaves are frosted and could have been made as a paperweight or perhaps a bookend.
In very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites it measures 7 3/4 inches tall, 3 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches narrow.
An addition to any Bird or Viking Glass Collection.
