Circa: 1950 Manufacturer: Holmes & Edwards/Made in USA
This sterling inlaid teaspoon in a floral pattern is marked on the back: E / Sterling Inlaid /HE (Holmes and Edwards). The terms Sterling Inlay and Sterling Inlaid were used by the Holmes and Edwards Company from late Victorian times until the brand was abandoned by International Silver in the 1960's. The successor brand, Deepsilver, also was made this way. Flatware would have a small block of sterling set into the piece at the wear points where the piece would rest on the table. This was a method of making the wear less visible. The term and practice has confused people ever since. In very good condition without dings or dents it measures 5 3/4 inches long with a bowl that is 2 inches by 1 1/8 inches. An addition to any Sterling Inlaid Spoon Collection. SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions feel free to contact me and thank you for looking. |
