Circa: 1908 Manufacturer: International Silver Company/Made in USA
This International Silver silver plated ladle in the La Vigne pattern 1908 is marked: Pat. Jan.04,1908 / 1881 Rogers A1. The International Silver Company, an amalgamation of fourteen independent silverware manufacturers, was formed in 1898. In nearby Hartford, three brothers, Asa, Simeon, and William Rogers, opened a workshop to manufacture coin silver silverware. As the cost of coin silver rose, the brothers conducted electroplating experiments. By 1847 they had perfected the process and issued their first electroplated silverware under the name of Rogers Bros. International Silver has been marketed aggressively since its 1898 formation. In 1968, International Silver became part of Insilco, A group of private investors purchased World Tableware in 1983 and organized the American Silver Company. LaVigne was introduced in 1908 by 1881 Rogers in the popular grape motif and continued in production until 1917 (the beginning of World War I). LaVigne, which means the vineyards, has many pronunciations. It features grapes and leaves around a cartouche with more spilling down the handle (the design being fairly deep and sculptural). In very good + condition, all original, it does have light scratches in the bowl from use, as I have shown in my pictures and it measures 10 1/2 inches long with a bowl that measures 3 inches by 3 1/2 inches. An addition to any Rogers 1881 Collection. SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have any questions feel free to contact me and thank you for looking. |
