This unusual Tiki figurine/paperweight with eagle and feathers headdress is unmarked and is made from Obsidian. Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock. It is produced when felsic lava extruded from a volcano cools without crystal growth. Obsidian is also used for ornamental purposes and as a gemstone. It possesses the property of presenting a different appearance according to the manner in which it is cut. When cut in one direction it is a beautiful jet black; when cut across another direction it is glistening gray. In ancient mythic Hawaii, from fire spewing volcanos too powerful crashing surf, ancient Hawaiians filled their amazing land and history with tiki gods. As you can see in the side picture #5 it has veins running through it and when held up to light you can see a grey hue mixed in the black glass. In very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites it measures 4 1/4 inches tall, 2 inches wide and 2 inches deep. An addition to any Obsidian, Tiki Figurine or Paperweight Collection. SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions please contact me and thank you for looking.
