Circa: 1950 Manufacturer: Goebel/Made in W.Germany
This is the medium Friar Tuck Beer Mug with Shoes is marked: T74/0 incised / Made in W. Germany. In the early 1950s, Goebel introduced a series of functional pieces called Friar Tucks and most of the items showed the good friar wearing sandals. These are called with toes. About five years later, some efficiency expert realized goebel could save time and money by painting the feet all black and they are called with shoes They were sculpted by several artists of the Goebel factory and are found with many interesting variations. Other than their Hummel series, this was Goebel’s most popular and most successful line. The series contained approximately 125 different items. The Friar Tuck line was discontinued in 1988. Some of the better-known examples of these brown-robed Friars include pitchers, mugs, egg timers, salt and pepper shakers, creamers, sugar bowls, and banks. In very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites it measures 4 1/8 inches tall, 3 1/8 inches wide and 2 3/8 inches across the base. I also have the medium and large mugs listed seperately for sale. Please see item #ptsfriar583 and ptsfriar582. An addition to any Goebel Friar Tuck Collection. SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions feel free to contact me and thank you for looking.
