Circa: 1980 Manufacturer: Nemadji Pottery/Made in USA
This lovely pottery vase is marked: Nemadji Pottery / U.S.A. Nemadji pottery comes from the Arrowhead region of Minnesota. It has never actually been made by native Americans, but is said to be reminiscent of the style and colouring used by them. It has come to be thought of by many as Indian pottery although it has no connection with the Ojibway tribe. It was originally made from clay dug from the banks of the Nemadji river. Nemadji Pottery was started in 1923 in Moose Lake. It produced floor tiles for wide distribution, mainly in the west and north-east, and decorative items intended primarily for the tourist trade. The painted decoration was distinctive, and the style has remained the same to the present day. The inside of the vase is a medium tan with speckles and a heavy glaze while the outside has a course feel to the touch with a swirl of colors that include red, orange, light and dark green, black, grey, black and brown on a light tan background. In very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites it measures 2 1/4 inches tall and 3 1/4 inches wide. An addition to any Nimadji Pottery Collection. SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions feel free to contact me and thank you for looking. |
