Manufacturer: unknown This small brass lamp burned whale oil or camphene, circa 1840. There is a wick in the single spout as well as the original wick cap. Because the burning camphene (a refined turpentine) fluid was so combustible the lamps had small caps that were used to douse the flame instead of blowing them out. The spout is 1.

25 inches high to keep the flame away from the combustible liquid. The cap screws off to open the font for filling. It is in excellent condition and measures 3.5 inches to top of cap and 2.25 inches in diameter at the base.
