The Novels and Stories of Frank R. Stockton The Shenandoah Edition, 21 volumes

Hard cover Shenandoah edition with green cloth over boards, spines are faded with title and other decoration in gilt. The top end pages are gilt and the sides are deckled. Tight bindings. Published by Charles Scribner's Sons, 1900. Overall books are in good + to very good condition, some light soiling, foxing and a bit dusty in places (see individual descriptions below), No DJ's.

The set includes Volumes 1-21. Some books still have the uncut pages and you can feel the impressions of letters! Printing the way it used to be.

The term UNCUT refers to the edges of a signature not being trimmed. The reader would use a paper knife along the edges.

Vol 1 - Frontise piece is a portrit of Frank R. Stockton. This volume contains The Late Mrs. Null. condition is very good. Minor foxing on front and back end papers.

Vol 2 - Frontise piece by Frontise piece by A. B. Frost. This volume contains The Squirrel Inn and The Merry Chanter. Condition good, minor amount of foxing on the back end papers and light yellow spots on the tissue page and the first few pages of the book. Some of the interior pages also have some light foxing and there is a stain on the front board..

Vol 3 - Frontise piece by A. B. Frost. This volume contains Rudder Grange. Condition very good, minor amount of foxing on the back end papers and light yellow spots on the tissue page.

Vol 4 - Frontise piece by W. T. Smedley. This volume contains The Hundredth Man. The volume contains uncut pages. Condition poor, the front and back end pages have a minor amount of foxing. There is evident of moisture, the pages have a light stain and are slightly wrinkled. The front and back boards also show evidence of moisture and are warpped.

Vol 5 - Frontise piece by W. Grandville Smith. This volume contains Ardis Claverden. Condition poor, the front and back end pages are starting to split and have a minor amount of foxing. There is evident of moisture, the pages have a light stain and are slightly wrinkled. The front and back boards also show evidence of moisture.

Vol 6 - Frontise piece by Walter Russell. This volume contains The Great War Syndicate, Etc. This volume contains uncut pages. Condition very good, minor amount of foxing on the back end papers and light yellow spots on the tissue and title page.

Vol 7 - Frontise piece by Fletcher C. Ransom. This volume contains The House of Martha. Condition very good, minor amount of foxing on the front and back end papers. There is foxing on pages 272-273 due to a piece of string that was used as a bookmark.

Vol 8 - Frontise piece by A. B. Frost. This volume contains Pomona's Travels. Condition very good, minor amount of foxing on the front and back end papers.

Vol 9 - Frontise piece by Clyde De Land. This volume contains The Adventures of Captain Horn. This volume contains uncut pages. Condition very good, minor amount of foxing on the front and back end papers.

Vol 10 - Frontise piece by R. F. Zogbaum. This volume contains Mrs. Cliff's Yacht. This volume contains uncut pages. Condition very good, minor amount of foxing on the front and back end papers and there is a small stain on the back board in the lower right corner.

Vol 11 - Frontise piece by Peter Newell. This volume contains The Great Stone of Sardis and The Waterdevil . This volume contains uncut pages. Condition very good, minor amount of foxing on back end papers.

Vol 12 - Frontise piece by C. M. Relyea. This volume contains The Girl at Cobhurst. Condition poor, there is foxing of the front and back end papers and stains on the pages due to moisture. The boards are slightly warpped.


Vol 13 - Frontise piece by M. J. Burns. This volume contains The Casting Away of Mrs. Lecks and Mrs. Aleshine and The Vizier of the Two-Horned Alexander. Condition very good, there is foxing of the front and back end papers and stains on the pages due to moisture. The boards are slightly warpped.


Vol 14 - Frontise piece by Howrd Chandler Christy. This volume is the novel The Associate Hermits. This volume contains uncut pages. Condition very good, minor amount of foxing on back end papers.


Vol 15 - Frontise piece by Albert Hurter. This volume is a collection of twelve of his short stories written between 1884-1900. This volume contains uncut pages. Condition very good, minor amount of foxing on back end papers. Page 124 has smudge in the top left corner.


Vol 16 - Frontise piece by Frank O. Small. This volume is a collection of eleven of his short stories written between 1884-1900. Condition very good, light stain on tissue and title page, minor amount of foxing on back end papers.

Vol 17 - Frontise piece is picture of Stockton in his study. This volume is a collection of eleven of his short stories written between 1887-1900. Condition very good.

Vol 18 - Frontise piece by Peter Newell. This volume is a collection of twelve of his short stories written between 1884-1900. Condition very good, light foxing on back end papers, small stain on front board.

Vol 19 - Frontise piece by Peter Newell. This volume is the novel Afield and Afloat. Condition very good.


Vol 20 - Frontise piece by A. I. Keller. This volume is the novel Kate Bonnet: The Romance of a Pirate's Daughter. Condition very good, there is a small dent on the top end of the pages that involves pgs 197-212, these pages also have bit of foxing near the dent.


Vol 21 - Frontise piece by A. I. Keller. This volume is the novel John Gayther's Garden. Condition very good, the front board at the bottom right corner is bumped and shows a bit of wear.

Frank R. Stockton (1834-1902) wrote juvenile and adult fiction that poked fun at human foibles. He is best known for his short story that asked the reader, The Lady or the Tiger? and for his whimsical novel Rudder Grange.
