Bursley Ware Frederick Rhead Pagoda Ware 11” Vase Hugely Impressive 11” Double Gourd Vase From Wood and Sons Burslem under their Bursley Ware trade name.
The Vase is in the Red Pagoda Ware Pattern number 458 designed by Frederick Rhead during his time working for the factory as Art Director during the 1920-30s when daughter Charlotte also helped with designs for her father.
The design itself is of Pagodas, Birds and Oriental styles similar to those featured in Blue Willow designs. The images are of transfer ware, with bold black colouration and golden outlines set against a rich red background for a most striking effect.
The condition of the vase is EXCEPTIONAL given the items age. There are NO Chips, cracks or restoration and the only signs of crazing are a couple of lines on the underside near the backstamp. The red background and the Pagoda design show vitually NO signs of ware at all right down to the Black mouth trim which has also survived almost entirely intact.
Probably just about as good as a piece of this age can be, the item is a wonderful example of Staffordshire pottery from one of it’s most celebrated and documented designers.

Dimensions
Approx 11.1/4 tall.
Maximum diameter of around 5 inches.

Air Mail shipping of between $30.00-50.00 dependant on destination (IT’S BIG). Tracking and insurance for LOSS ONLY are available for a further $8.00.

Frederick Rhead Trellis Pattern Cosy Pot Wonderful piece of Staffordshire Art Pottery from Wood and Sons, Burslem in the form of the uniquely styled Cosy Pot with Slipper Lid which was marketed in the 1920s as the perfect Tea / Coffee Pot.

The design is the much acclaimed Trellis pattern by Art director Frederick Rhead and features an Arts and Crafts style tubelined Trellis design decorated with Roses not dissimilar to those of the Rennie Mackintosh, Glasgow School designs.
It is reputed that, although designed by Frederick, these items were often tubed by the hand of daughter Charlotte whilst she learned her trade under her fathers guidance.
A truly special piece!

CONDITION. – As can be seen from the photos the decoration and structure of the pot are absolutely superb. Other than a little age related crazing under the lid in the rim section it really is quite superb. There are, however, a couple of very minor hairlines to the base that are completely stable and, being contained to the underside, take very little away from the display value of an exceptional piece. They really are very minor and can be seen clearly in the photos showing as little more than discoloured crazing lines.
I believe current book values of this item to be between $400-600 and therefore feel this is an excellent opportunity for the serious collector to own a wonderful piece of Staffordshire, potted history.

Wood and Sons Frederick Rhead Red Chung Cosy Stunning Wood and Sons, Burslem, Staffordshire Cosy Pot with Slipper lid in the Red Chung design by Frederick Rhead.
The design was produced during his time as Art Director at the Burslem factory an dates to around the 1920s.
The original Chung was a blue and White transfer pattern but this much rarer Red variety has most of the plainer background infilled with bold hand painted strokes to add a wonderful plash of colour against the Dark Blue designs.

Condition - The pot and lid are in Excellent condition with no cracks and chips. There is, however, a small professional repair to a 4mmm surface chip to the spout and I have shown a close up of the area in one of the photos.
To all intents and puposes this repair is very professionally done and does not show but I mention it for accuracy.

The item stands at approximately 7 inches tall to the tip of the spout and as such is one of the larger sizes of the uniquely styled Cosy Pot which was marketed as the Ultimate Tea or Coffee Pot because of the uniquely locking lid.
