The vase(s) are finished with a white tied bow around the trim. Very often this type of pottery from Shelley shows considerable wear to the Black finish but where the white China beneath shows through. There is also a tendency for the Black finish to become dulled with age and to adopt a Grey tone. These two are really quite good and, as can be seen from the photos there are literally 2, perhaps 3 at most dust speck size marks on each. The Black background is also in good condition with no serious fading to report. There is actually an area at the neck of each vase where a little too much black paint has been applied and it show as a glaze run. A delightful pair at a very good price for china of this type from one of Staffordshire's finest factories.
Dimensions: 6.1/2" tall 2.3/4" widest point. |
