EAPG: 3 variant double salt baskets w 2 shakers Coop Flint
These 3 small handled baskets with double compartments for salts are quite interesting. Though all measure almost the same size, the subtle differences suggest an evolution in design & production, or simply different manufacturers. All have a distinct basket pattern on the sides, rope twist lower edges, a star under the base, & small round feet. Two baskets (one frosted, one clear) have a straight patterned handle, which obviously was tooled from each side to just barely touch in the center. They appear to be slightly finer in quality than the 3rd. The 3rd has a much thicker section inside the basket where the rope twisted handle originates. But this latter handle was pressed in one piece & not tooled; the glass is coarser & purpled from age. Measurements: plain handled: 3 7/8" long x 2" wide x 3" to the top of the handle. Twisted handled: 3 7/8" long x 2 1/8" wide x 2 ¾" to the top of the handle. Attributed to Cooperative Flint Glass Co., c 1910, as shown in Heacock’s Salts, pg. 18. See photos for the 3rd basket in a Coop Flint reprint, titled "Basket Salt." I’ve been told that Imperial also made the 3rd basket with shakers, around the same time. A set of shakers is included, but are not original to the baskets. Baskets all glow under black light, consistent with age, and are not repros! No damage.
