THE BRAVE BULLS. Lea, Tom. Boston: Little Brown & Co, 1949. First edition. 270 pages. Color title page illustration with numerous black and white illustrations. SIGNED/inscribed and illustrated by the author. Book is fine in good dust jacket.
Winner of the Carr P. Collins Award of the Texas Institute of Letters for best book by a Texan, this is "...the story of Luis Bellow, 'The Swordsman of Guerreras,' whose profession is the dealing of violent death while subject to it himself, who lives by his body and by his heart." Strikingly illustrated, "it is written with the utmost of economy, and is beautiful in its power." Scarce in such fine condition. The Brave Bulls is a story of a matador and the things he loves in life. Story was made into a film in 1951 starring Mel Ferrer and Anthony Quinn.
This is inscribed by Tom Lea to my grandparents and filled with beautiful colored drawings done by the author.
This book, signed by the author, is becoming RARE. Has been appraised at $500.
