Frederic Mizen, the artist who did ‘Navajo Woman’ was born in Chicago 1888. Noted western genre, his father was noted Secy to three Generals on the frontier. He studied with Ufer and at the Academy Julien in Paris. Did portraits of Indians. Died in 1964.

Paintings by Mizen are very detailed and show the wonderful expressions of the Native Americans as well as their jewelry.

SFRR used these artists, mostly from Taos, New Mexico, for their calendars to advertise travel in the southwest.

Information in the bottom right corner ‘Lewis F. Dow Co. St. Paul USA’ and in the lower left corner ‘Copyright 1951 The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company, Litho in USA'

The picture size is 10 inches X 12inches; and is in perfect condition. There is one small flaw on the left side but is not noticeable except upon close inspection and does not take away from the visual. The entire size, including the area where the calendar was stapled on and some pieces of calendar, is 14inches X 13inches; and has small holes from the staples and hanging hole.

Is from a family estate in New Mexico.
