Frederic Mizen, the artist who did ‘Navajo Shepherdess’ (which is not the same painting as the one by artist ‘Yemo or Nemo’) was born in Chicago 1888. Noted western genre, his father was noted Secy to three Generals on the frontier. He studied with Ufer and at the Academy Julien in Paris. Did portraits of Indians. Died in 1964.
Paintings by Mizen are very detailed and show the wonderful expressions of the Native Americans as well as their jewelry.
SFRR used these artists, mostly from Taos, New Mexico, for their calendars to advertise travel in the southwest.
