Frederic Mizen, the artist who did ‘Dancing Lesson’ was born in Chicago 1888. Noted western genre, his father was noted Secy to three Generals on the frontier. He studied with Ufer and at the Academy Julien in Paris. Did portraits of Indians. Died in 1964.
Paintings by Mizen are very detailed and show the wonderful expressions of the Native Americans as well as their jewelry and pottery.
SFRR used these artists, mostly from Taos, New Mexico, for their calendars to advertise travel in the southwest. This particular one has Taos, New Mexico under the artist name.
Information in the bottom right corner ‘Forbes Lithograph Manufacturing Co. Boston USA’ (which is a different version of the same on SFRR100 from 1940) and in the lower left corner ‘Copyright 1957 The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company, Litho in USA'
The picture size is 10 inchesX 12inches; and is in perfect condition. The entire size, including the area where the calendar was stapled on and some pieces of calendar, is 14 inches X 13 inches; and has small holes from the staples and hanging hole.
Is from a family estate in New Mexico.
