A photo postcard B 3007 showing 'Old San Miguel church, Santa Fe, NM' Photographed in 1880. The reverse reads ' the Oldest church. santa Fe, NM, in 1872, was visited by a severe storm and the triple tower of the Old Church was destroyed. It was rebuilt, as now seen, in 1888 , and the buttresses built against the front. The oldest cemetery is seen in front, with its adobe wall to the left. Chamuscado, in 1581, came as far as Tiguex, now Santa Fe, and left three Fransiscans. In 1582, Espejo, with a small party, found that the Fathers had been killed. They soon all returned to Mexico. Onate, in 1607, with his colony, joined the people of Tiguex, and made it the capital. It was then called Santa Fe de San Francisco'.
It also has 'Copyrighted 1908 St. Michaels College, Santa Fe, New Mexico' on the side. The college was erected in 1878. Located in the Barrio de Analco Historic District, it was originally part of a private boy's school known as College of Santa Fe run by the Christian Brothers from 1878-1966. They copyrighted photos for postcards and sold them to early 1900 tourists in the area.
This postcard and three others are examples of beautiful vintage photos/postcards and are museum-quality, no longer available.
