Art Nouveau Paris Chic Souvenir Urn - Janesville, Wis
Art Nouveau Old Paris style semi-translucent two handled , deeply embossed and painted souvenir urn of Janesville, Wisconsin. Top wide cornice and open bracket motif painted in rich Cobalt and trimmed in brilliant gold frames the central motif of three hanging fruit (figs?) underlined with series of golden jewels. Calligraphy gold script states, 'Souvenir of Janesville Wis' and is underscored by delicate tight crimped porcelain lace of brilliant gold. Item is of small size and intended for use as a souvenir.
Elaborate base skirt is painted in a lavender-blue with shimmery iridescent finish. Back is a solid cream color with glossy finish. Feet are unglazed Biscuit with expected rub wear. A smeared red '51' and incised under glaze markings 73c3 (or 7363) give us no clue as to the maker, however, styling, script and Estate history provided leads us to believe it is of European origin, possibly old Czechoslovakia, Germany or the Bohemia region, with a date of production to be circa 1910 - 1920.
