Betty Harrington Ceramic Arts Studio Wang Sing on Bamboo
1940's C.A.S.Wang Sing on Bamboo is 7 inches tall and in pristine, well-cared for condition. The detailed Bamboo stalks are open for use as a Three Fingered Vase. Clearly marked in black under glaze - Ceramic Arts Studio, Madison, Wis. and the copyright BH mark. A number 4 is also inked on the unglazed portion of the bottom.
History: Ceramic Arts Studio began operation prior to the 1940's, but it was in the 1940's when Betty Harrington started marketing her goods through the company. Betty Harrington was the designer primarily responsible for creating the line of figurines and knick-knacks that has become so popular with collectors today.
Of the eight different marks used, the black ink stamp and the incised mark are prior to 1955 when the company closed it's doors in Madison and the molds retired.
The owner moved his operation to Japan where new and quite different pieces were then made. The Japanese pieces are never marked Madison, Wis. and have Blue and Red marks exclusively. Book Piece.
