Victorian Franz Mehlem Transfer Painted Wild Fowl Plate
Antique Franz Anton Mehlem (Royal Bonn) Victorian high relief embossed flower and scroll earthenware plate with transfer painted Wild Fowl in natural setting medallion. Display plate was produced between 1887 to 1920.
Motif of gradient shades of meadow greens, pale golden and vibrant pink hues border a central painted medallion with Grouse or Pheasant in natural grass and brush below a cloud scattered blue sky. High sheen glazing.
Plate measures 9.5 inches in diameter and has two piercings on the back collar rim for displaying. Incised under glaze Franz Ant.Mehlem Bonn Rhein encirles the Script AM logo. Mark was used between 1887 - 1920. Additional incised markings are Diamond, letters BU and the number 23 along with an inkstamped letter "C". Rated to be in very good condition with some crazing to the glaze on the base and foot and two pin-dots of paint loss in the medallion pattern.
