Saucy little Kewpie became so popular after the first illustrations of Rose O'Neil appeared in 1909. There was enough demand for items bearing the Kewpie likeness that even Rose O'Neill would not have been able to produce all the models and examples mass merchandising would require. Her popularity during the 1920s and 1930s was as famous and beloved as Disney and Mickey Mouse would be in the decades following. It is in the hearts and minds of those who love and passionately collect Kewpies in their many forms that Rose O'Neill continues to be remembered.
