Click for more detail... 0207-20	Carved Shell Cameo in 9k Hand Pierced Frame Mounting Antique 9k hand carved Victorian Era Cameo brooch bezel mounted in an 8-sided geometric shaped outer frame. Frame is completely crafted by hand with a delicate pierced openwork motif. Hand carved shell cameo rests in a hammered oval bezel inner frame. Bezel is surrounded with a delicate twisted rope. Right facing profile with facial features and attire that suggest a Roman Diety or Royal. The cameo is also different from the norm in color with the white carving exposing a grey-blue undertone. Back is etched with Roman Numerals XXXVII and a faintly scribed symbol that looks to be a staff with coiling snake. Piece is unmarked low content 9k gold and shows some age-related minor abrasion marks on the metal in small random areas. Then again, it may be the natural patina that occurs over the years. Overall size of brooch is 1.75 inches high by 1.5 inches wide. Cameo size is 1.25 inches by 7/8 inches wide. Given an overall Very Good rating due to age related abrasions to the metal and a pin head size inclusion (or flake) on the far right (at Bezel and indicated in photo). Based on the construction, hand work and antique style pin attachment with extending pin point, we have dated this to be Circa 1890 - 1900.
