0307-102

Art Nouveau Bohemia, Czech Souvenir Urn - Janesville, Wis Bohemia, Czechoslovakia "Old Paris" style semi-translucent two handled , deeply embossed and painted souvenir urn of Janesville, Wisconsin. Top wide cornice and open bracket motif painted in rich Cobalt and trimmed in brilliant gold frames the central motif of three hanging fruit (figs?) underlined with series of golden jewels. Calligraphy gold script states, 'Souvenir of Janesville Wis' and is underscored by delicate tight crimped porcelain lace of brilliant gold. Item is of small size and intended for use as a souvenir.

Elaborate base skirt is painted in a lavender-blue with shimmery iridescent finish. Back is a solid cream
color with glossy finish. Feet are unglazed Biscuit with expected rub wear. A smeared red '51' and incised under glaze markings 73c3 (or 7363) give us no clue as to the maker, however, styling, script and Estate history provided leads us to believe it is of European origin, possibly old Czechoslovakia, Germany or the Bohemia region, with a date of production to be circa 1910 - 1920.

040904

European Bisque Cherubs Spill Vase or Wall Pocket Pair So spritely and animated are the facial features of this charming matched pair of painted bisque cherub spill vases. Made of unglazed biscuit porcelain they are charming in their color washed pastels. Each piece measures 4.5 inches long by 3.5 inches wide with a 2.25 inch depth.

An unmarked Estate acquisition dated to the early part of the 20th Century by the Estate Trustee and believed to be Italian.
They are just two of many fine porcelain pieces that had been boxed and placed in storage for many years before making their way back into the public eye.

The set is rated as Very Good to Excellent with only one minor flaw that we could find and that is from the time of firing. There is one small "crease" in the Bisque located on the back wall of the pocket. It does not extend to the front and does not detract nor harm the integrity of the little angel.

These adorable little ones would grace anyone's home. Small enough to display standing in a cabinet as figurines. Thank you for browsing in Aurora's Attic Treasures.

020901

Antique Unger, Carl Schneider Large Rococo Bisque Figurine Superb example of Carl Schneider's talent as a sculptor is seen in this delicately color tinted and gilt Biscuit porcelain figure of a Rococo Period young man. He stands tall and bears the early manufacturer mark of Unger, Schneider Cie, Grafenthal, Thuringia, Germany.

Founded in 1861 producing superior figurals in delicate biscuit porcelain and sculpted with attention to detail, this lad is superb in period garb, measures a stout 15 5/8 inches high. Holding a pipe in one hand, and tipping his feathered cap in another, with brilliant gold buttons to his otherwise unglazed biscuit chest coat, knicker cuffs, belt, boot tips and also accenting his sash tips. He stands upon a rock bridge covered in grape vine. One cluster of grapes exhibits a high lustering with just a hint of opalescent color.

Incised mark of Carl Schneider, Unger, Schneider Cie and Registry mark (DEP -dating this piece between 1879 - 1887). Impressed number 8858. Piece is rated to be in very good to near excellent condition. A wonderful example of Carl Schneider's artistic expertise.
