Glass Paperweights French Venetian Bohemian Book GLASS PAPERWEIGHTS IN THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO by Geraldine J. Casper, The Art Institute of Chicago, IL, 1991.

This introduction to the Chicago Art Institute’s paperweight collection 'includes over fourteen hundred paperweights in the Arthur Rubloff Collection, one of the finest in the world. Over 130 illustrations capture the mystery and beauty of numerous paperweights produced in the French factories of the ‘classic period,' as well as renowned American, Bohemian, and English, and Venetian examples. Also illustrated are ancient and nineteenth-century objects made with similar glass-making techniques and a fine selection from the ‘paperweight renaissance’ of the twentieth century.' From abstract designs to nature encapsulated to the art glass of such artists as Lalique and Baccarat, this colorfully illustrated book will grace a coffee table, enrich a reference library and delight general readers of all ages.

Rare Book Encyclopedia Antique Glass Paperweights Profusely illustrated with 242 black-and-white and 135 color photographs, this early out-of-print text provides a comprehensive survey of antique art glass paperweights.

THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF GLASS PAPERWEIGHTS by Paul Hollister, Jr., Bramhall House, NY, 1969.

'Until this book, there has been no comprehensive study of glass paperweights. Encyclopedic in scope and copiously illustrated, it surveys the entire history of the subject, from an exploration of the origins of millefiori techniques in the 18th Dynasty Egypt to the latest paperweight developments the world over. Within sections devoted to paperweight making by country are histories of all major and most minor glassworks, with detailed studies of every type and variation of paperweight they made. Other chapters deal with sulphides, modern paperweights, and the scientific examination of paperweight glass. A complete glossary of terms, an exhaustive bibliography of pertinent glass literature, and a list of museums with paperweight collections are indications of the vast amount of research required for this book. For collectors, scholars, or anyone interested in decorative arts, it will become the standard text.

7.2 in. x 10.1 in. hardback with dust cover in protective plastic sleeve in very good+ condition. 312 pages.

Scarce Book Art Glass / Vintage Paper Weights There’s a wealth of information in this early out-of-print book titled

PAPERWEIGHTS AND OTHER GLASS CURIOSITIES by E.M. Elville, Spring Books, London 1954/1967.

The author provides a concise review of the history of paperweights and the technique of their manufacture, illustrating his text with some of the finest specimens of this very specialized craft. He rightly devotes much attention to the superb weights, which come from the famous French factories of Baccarat, St.Louis and Clichy, and traces the development of paperweight manufacturing down to the present time. His classification and descriptions of the different types of weights – millefiori, flower weights, rare subject weights, overlays, magnums and miniatures – are of the greatest value for all serious collectors. Under the terms "curiosities" and occupying the latter half of this fascinating text, Mr. Elville reviews fashionable English Victorian glass, and groups such collector’s items as glass clock lamps, candlesticks, candelabras, sconces, mirrors and drinking glasses, especially from the 18th century; and he rounds the book off with a discussion of interesting miscellaneous items such as fingerbowls, jelly-glasses, marbles and coloured lustres. This scarce book is an indispensable reference for the collector, dealer, or historian of paperweights and English Victorian art glass.
