Scarce Illustrated Book Old Navajo Indian Blankets Lavishly illustrated in color and black-and-white, this early out-of-print book provides a pictorial survey of Navajo Indian blankets.

THE NAVAJO BLANKET. By Mary Hund Kahlenberg and Anthony Berlant, Praeger Publishers Inc. in association with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1972/1973.

81 full-page color and black-and-white pictures complete with in-depth captions capture the history and beauty of these early Native American Indian works of art. A typical museum text, the narrative is concisely rich and the photography is superb. This book reviews the history, techniques, materials, and stylistic development of these blankets. Each picture is described with style, material, date, dimensions, warp, weft, wool type, and dye materials. This book is fascinating in so many ways and provides the reader with a wealth of information in the identification and dating of these early Navajo Indian blankets. If you are a student, or a collector, dealer, or historian of Native American Indian works of art, you will want to add this invaluable text to your permanent reference library.

Scarce In-Depth Book Navajo Indian Blankets Wonderfully illustrated in color and black-and-white, this early out-of-print book is a leading authoritative reference work on American Indian Navajo rugs.

THE NAVAJO AND HIS BLANKET. By U.S. Hollister, Denver, Rio Grande Press Inc., NM, 1972 First Edition.

While this book was first published in 1903, it was apparently 'in preparation' for several years before that – perhaps as early as 1890. This book is an in-depth historical survey of the Navajo Indian, which blends the specifics of making a Navajo blanket. Thus the interesting reading. In the words of the author, 'During the years in which I have been interested in the work of the Navajos and in collecting choice examples of their weaving, many questions concerning these people and their woven fabrics have been asked me; and it was in consequence of these frequent inquiries that I was prompted to prepare this book. While it is far from a complete presentation of the subjects with which it deals, it may prove of value and interest to those who admire and buy Navajo blankets; and to them it is respectfully dedicated.'

8.6 in. x 11.3 in. hardback with color imprinted cover in very good condition. 144 pages.
