Rare Book Antique European American Snuff Boxes
Over 700 color and mostly black-and-white captioned photographs identify antique European and American snuff boxes in this rare out-of-print book.
EUROPEAN & AMERICAN SNUFF BOXES 1730-1830 by Clare le Corbeiller, Viking Press, NY, 1966.
This book is 'an informative and absorbing study, compiled from original source material, of the snuff boxes of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Clare le Corbeiller discusses snuff boxes of every type and material: gold, silver, and other metals, hardstone, porcelain, enamel, lacquer, tortoiseshell, horn, ivory, wood and the more elusive or rare materials. The output of all the Western countries (the USA and Canada, Britain, Europe, Scandinavia and Russia) is analyzed and, where it can be traced, the work of individual craftsmen and decorators is identified and described. As important as Mrs. le Corbeiller’s text is the remarkable corpus of pictures with which it is illustrated. Over 700 photographs show snuff boxes from more than 70 collections, public and private, on both sides of the Atlantic. With the help of these pictures and the authoritative text, collectors will be able to identify the date and country of origin of any snuff box which they may possess, or think of buying.'
