Sowerby Davidson Richardson Webb English Glass / Book 'The 96 pages of superb illustrations in full color show in meticulous detail the growth of English Craftsmanship in colored glass from the 14th to the end of the 19th century…Of particular interest to American collectors is the full treatment of 19th century pieces, the cameo work of Pellatt, Tassie and Webb, and the output of many factories including Bacchus, Harris, Richardson and Whitefriars.'

COLORED GLASS by Derek C. Davis and Keith Middlemas, Clarkson N. Potter, Inc., NY, 1968.

There’s a wealth of information in this early out-of-print book which traces the development of colored glass in England. The color and black and white photography is superb and the text is concisely rich. The authors 'show how in the Middle Ages an industry grew up making pale green glass, a manufacture which has survived into recent times, and how after a long space of time when they imitated Venetian models, British craftsmen invented the famous Glass of Lead and went on to the use of colored decoration. Individual chapters deal with the twists of colored enamel in the stems of glasses, the brilliant paintings of the Beilby family, Michael Edkins and others in use of gilding; also the development of blue, green and amethyst glass at Bristol and the production of toys and novelties at Nailsea, ranging from 'Latticino' flasks to elaborate ship models.' The book then brings you to the 'brief' period of British Art Nouveau. Examples include glass manufactured by Stourbridge, Thomas Webb & Sons, Sowerby, George Davidson & Son, Richardson, George Bacchus & Sons, James Tassie, Bristol examples, and more. This is an indispensable book for the collector, dealer, or historian of English colored glass.

Antique Irish Waterford Glass Rare Comprehensive Book Lavishly illustrated in color and black-and-white, this early out-of-print text is a comprehensive pictorial guide to Irish Waterford crystal. The superb color photographs, in-depth captions, and comprehensive narrative combine to make this rare book an invaluable resource reference work.

THE COLLECTOR’S GUIDE: WATERFORD: AN IRISH ART by Ida Grehan, Portfolio Press, Huntington, N.Y., 1981 First Edition,

'is the first complete book ever published on the entire history of Waterford Crystal, including a major photographic study of old and new pieces. The history of Waterford is traced in the light of the social and economic conditions of Ireland through the centuries. From the early struggles to today’s worldwide recognition, the full story of Waterford Crystal and the people who have been involved is told in a charming and informative narrative. There is a special chapter on how crystal is still created wholly by hand, a history of the town and county of Waterford, and a look at the famous personalities who have received trophies and special pieces of Waterford crystal. For collectors, there is an extensive portfolio of photographs, most in color, of all stemware suites, limited editions, and unique pieces plus a separate chapter on some of the most well-known rooms where Waterford crystal is in evidence.' Waterford chandeliers and lamps are also presented in their architectural settings in this beautifully illustrated volume. One of the most complete references available on the subject, this rare book would make a fine addition to the permanent reference library of the collector, dealer, or historian of Irish Waterford glass.

English Bottles Decanters 1650-1900 / Scarce Book Profusely illustrated in color, this rare out-of-print book is a definitive guide to

ENGLISH BOTTLES AND DECANTERS: 1650-1900 by Derek C. Davis, World Publishing Co., 1972.

'Visual identification is essential to successful glass collecting in the field of bottles and decanters. The 60 full-color plates in this Collector’s Guide, with their detailed and informative captions, are, therefore, invaluable for any serious collector, whether new or experienced. The introduction traces the development of bottles and decanters up until Victorian times as well as giving an interesting background history of glass-making throughout the world. The pieces photographed are, with very few exceptions, still readily available; indeed, many pieces have recently passed through the author’s hands. Mr. Davis'’ early ambition was to be a doctor, but, entering the family business instead, he has subsequently become acknowledged as a leading authority on antique glass. He has published several books and written articles for antiques journals as well as lecturing and researching in his subject.' Here is a very fine collector’s guide to enhance the reference library of anyone who collects, appraises, and appreciates antique bottles and decanters.
