Condition: Used Manufacturer: Van Bergh
This beautiful Van Bergh Quadruple silverplate basket was manufactured in Rochester, NY, between 1890 and 1925. The repousse on the rim and base are simply gorgeous, as is the gentler engraving around the rise of the basket. The condition of this piece is very good to excellent, with absolutely no breaks in the surface of the silverplate except on the bottom of the base, and even there they are minor. There are residues of tarnish that still need to be removed, particularly in the crevices and in the design. The base is marked Van Bergh Silverplate, Rochester, NY, with the words Quadruple Plate in the center of the circle and the number 1116. This is an exquisite piece to add to your silverplate collection and would look simply grand filled with fruit or flowers, and could even be used as a server on your table. I always think of these pieces as bride's baskets, and this one would be perfect for the flower girl's stroll down the aisle in your next family wedding, and a beautiful gift for the bride and groom's new table. Van Bergh, while originally in Rochester New York, eventually became Oneida Community Ltd., New York. |
