This old cookie cutter is made of old flat sheet iron or tin with a backing. The design (groundhog?) is soldered onto the back and there is an air hole, indicating a very early age. It has some darkening and a bit of oxidation --easily retsored with a bit of fine steel wool if that is your desire. Obviously handmade, judging by the globs of solder and by the way the tail extends over the end of the flatback. There is a small separation where the ends of the tin overlap. In addition, the handle has come off. Still, depending on the type of collection that you have and how you display them, this might be considered a great find due to the unusual design.
NOTE: If you are new to cookie cutters as a collectible, you might be interested to know that this is likely one of the Pennsylvania Dutch handcrafted cutters that was made by the Moravian community in PA. Bethlehem is the hometown of the founders of the Moravian community, where they have just restored the metalsmith shop within this past year, and where they give fascinating demonstrations of the craft every year at community events.
