The George Z Lefton Company was started in 1941 and during the war years their main emphasis was on selling American Giftware. After WW2 Mr Lefton forseeing the future potential began importing ceramic giftware from Japan. Today he is credited with saving many American companies who followed his example. In 1948 Mr Lefton saw another opportunity in the European market and began producing items such as his Hummel-like figures. He liked to dare customers in his showroom to find the genuine Hummel he had placed in with the Lefton look alikes and to his delight most failed the test.
