1909 A Gentleman of Quality-FREDERIC VAN RENSSELAER DEY We have obtained a nice inventory of antique/vintage hardback books dating from late 1800s - 1920s. Please be watching.

Can't say enough about the GREAT CONDITION this wonderful gray clothbound book is. It is 96 YEARS OLD and looks ~New! Copyright, 1909 FREDERIC VAN RENSSELAER DEY, (Author of THE MAGIC STORY). With a frontispiece in color by FRANK P. FAIRBANKS. Publishers: GROSSET & DUNLAP, New York.

TITLED: A GENTLEMAN OF QUALITY.
CONDITION: Gray cloth boards with marron titles. Excellent color illustration pasted down to front cover. With dust-jacket, aged and very worn. Because of that, is has saved and kept this book in FANTASTIC condition!! Could easily pass for brand-new. Only minor flaw is the end pages are dirty. Binding tight, super nice clean pages.

Inside dust-jacket has reference to book. *To be suddenly claimed as husband by a lovely woman, to be recognized as master by a good servant, to fall heir to title and money and to be surrounded by people who claim to be old friends is certainly an experience that comes to few men. A young American found himself in such a situation at a time when he was most in need of the things that make life pleasant, and he yielded to the temptation offered him. His resourcefulness was severely taxed many times by the unique situation, and his experiences make a story difficult to leave when once begun.....

Inside is the AUTHOR'S PREFACE TO THIS FOURTH EDITION: In the month of October, 1895 among the mountains of Mexico, I met with an adventure which recalled a strange tale I had heard, during a visit in 1887. I cannot vouch for the truth of the tale told to me in '97,I can say it made a deep impression; but when the adventure occurred, a little more than seven years afterward, telling the store became irresistible. (The adventure of 1895, consisted in coming upon the crused and broken body of a man who had wandered over the face of a cliff into a deep canyon. He was breathing when we found him;he lived some hours afterward; he died as he and lived~a mystery. The guide of our party recognized him as the principal man of the tale I had heard told in 1887. The man made his first appearance in Mexico city during summer of 1885.He had conducted himself strangely, and had forgotten his identity. He wandered from town to town. For a time he disappeared, but in November, 1886 he came back to Mexico city, and soon he sailed for England on a ship from Vera Cruz. Before he sailed away he confided to three different men the tale that his memory had been restored; that he was an English peer; that he had been attacked and beaten, on his wedding day; that he had utterly forgotten his own identity since then, until a few months before he sailed to England. He was then returning to claim his heritage and his bride.Three months later, in February, 1887,he reappeared in Mexico and returned to the mountains of Guerrero. To one of the men he confided in, he related that he must have been deceived in his belief in the recovery of his memory;that upon returning to England he discovered that the man he supposed himself to be,had never left that country;that Lord and Lady X,were living happily together;and he, therefore, had no idea who he really was. He explained that the likeness between Lord X and himself was most striking. He declared his purpose to be to return to the mountains, and to die among them, unknown. That is the bare story. Some alterations and changes have been made in this edition, but the one part of my story that is entirely authentic, is the name of its hero: JOHN ASHTON.That was the name by which they mysterious man of the mountains was known. Then: signed by author, dated June 4, 1909.
Super interesting tale. A man of mystery.

Good-luck. Super LOW RESERVE!!

THE THREE SISTERS-F.Lafon Antique Bookplate We have been fortunate to obtain some wonderful quality antique lithograph prints: chromolithographs, steel, wood engravings dating from the ninteenth century depicting various examples of artwork. Beautiful pictures very suitable for framing. Stored away from light, gorgeous pieces, you truly will appreciate these pieces in person.

Here is an antique bookplate print that was saved from an badly worn book. Nice depiction of the Victorian style of dress of that era. Are three lovely women dressed in outfits of the time period. Talented sisters of the arts, cello, violin and art paint easel. Roman pillars in background. Nice antique colored plate that would be nice framed. Has writing on the back.

In VERY GOOD condition, the main print itself in excellent condition. It is the edge borders that either are bent, tears, missing edges. Enough border to trim away to frame with no problem, glued in antique booklet. Actual main picture itself measures 4-1/4" W x 7-1/4" H. Make sure to see our other great antique pictures we have listed.

Shipping/Handling in the U.S. will be $3.50-INSURANCE EXTRA. (We encourge you to purchase multiple auctions for shipping savings.)

1944:ROAD TO VICTORY-WWII REMEMBERED BOOK EXCELLENT CONDITION OF THIS WORLD WAR II REMEMBERED BOOK ~ 1944: ROAD TO VICTORY. ISSUED IN 1994 BY THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE.

Front endpaper: GI's preparing for D-Day landing in Normandy studied this map of Omaha beach. Red circles mark tank traps and obstacles, some under water. Oriented to the attacker's perspective, the map *looks* south rather than the usual north.

Back endpaper: Japanese map of New Guinea charts perils for American assault forces. For MacArthur, it provided an exercise in how to seize some bases while bypassing others in his advance toward the Philippines.

Book measures 11-1/4 x 8-3/4, 40 pages. Nicely detailed with information. Lots of illustrations throughout on every page. Since this was issued by the postal service, some pages have blank areas, where I believe you can adhere/hinge an appropriate stamp in this book album. (No stamps).

Pictured: COVERING THE AIR WAR, D-DAY, AND BATTLES IN WESTERN EUROPE. WALTER CRONKITE COVERING THE WAR. ALLIES STAGGER BOTH GERMANY AND JAPAN, BUT THE WAR RAGES ON. VICTORY IN SKIES OVER GERMANY, showing B-17s and P-51 Mustang Fighters. ALLIES STORM ASHORE ON D-DAY. A FAR-OUT WAR FOR THE AIRBORNE. U.S. SUBS STUN FOE IN PACIFIC. ALLIES LIBERATE ROME AND PARIS. U.S. TAKES SAIPAN, TINIAN AND GUAM. RED BALL EXPRESS FUELS U.S. DRIVE. A NAVY TRIUMPH IN LEYTE GULF. When it ended the U.S. Navy had sunk four carriers, three battleships, 10 cruisers and 11 destroyers-28 vessels in all. BASTOGNE AND BATTLE OF BULGE. WAVES OF DESTRUCTION ROLL OVER MUCH OF THE PLANET. BASEBALL, MOVIES AND A NONSENSE SONG OFFER COUNTERPOINT TO WAR. TERROR WEAPONS AND TACTICS OF DESPERATION FAIL TO STOP ALLIES.

GREAT WWII BOOK THAT MIGHT GIVE YOU SOME INSIGHT ON WHAT HAPPENED. NO RESERVE!!

INTRODUCTION: (EXCERPT) ~ Movie posters were never meant to be collected; nor were they ever intended to be sold to the public. They were not mass-produced, and were never meant to be mass-merchandised. Posters were produced for one reason: to advertise upcoming films at the locl theater. They were intended to be used over and over again, shipped from one theater to the next, until they fell apart from over-use. They were printed in very limited quantities (probably under 10,000 one sheets during the thirties) because until recently there were not a large number of theaters around the United States (it is estimated that during the Depression there may have been as few as 3,000 theaters nationwide.) But they were produced with such dazzling beauty that it was inevitable people would take them home and hang them on their walls. Thus began the hobby of collecting movie posters.

BOOK SUBJECT ~ Here are book excerpts regarding this second edition.
The first edition appeared in early 1985. The hobby of collecting movie posters has matured a great deal. Movie posters have recently been referred to as *Hollywood posters*, *film posters*, *cinema advertising paper*, and other terms intended to make movie posters seem more akin to the fine art field. (We prefer to call them, quite humbly, what they have always been called - movie posters.) Prices that were never dreamed of when the first edition came out have been achieved and even surpassed. Nowadays, $30,000 is a price that won't buy some of the rarest posters. The current market is so strong that the supply of rare classic posters has all but dried up. The lack of reliable pricing information in the marketplace has contributed to the great reluctance by old-time collectors to sell anything of top quality or rarity.

Most everyone loves the motion pictures so this will be great to read through. The posters capture a day of long ago and magic. For the avid collectors this definately is a MUST-HAVE REFERENCE BOOK that gives you a guide to your collection.

The center of the book has a nice collection of VIBRANT ILLUSTRATED POSTERS. The rest of the book has them shown in black and white, or just the descriptive information on the poster. All in alphabetical arrangement.

Note the TABLE OF CONTENTS, pictured for you, and the important **Ten Poster Tips* by Matthew Schapiro.
