LOVELY YOUNG GIRL WITH WINGS. PSYCHE. AN ANGEL, CHERUB, NYMPH-LIKE GIRL. COLORS ARE WONDERFUL IN THIS ORIGINAL EARLY 1900'S VINTAGE LITHOGRAPH PRINT. THE BLUES ARE GORGEOUS!!! LITHOGRAPH IN EXCELLENT, PRISTENE CONDITION!!!
PSYCHE - W. SERGEANT KENDAL. Psyche, in classic mythology, was a lovely maiden, personifying the soul - usually shown with the wings of a butterfly, symbolizing immortality. In this, one of his greatest paintings, W. SERGEANT KENDALL has mixed tenderness with the clean, delicate colors of his palette to show an awakening soul. It is a study in oils - clear, innocent and lovely - in which genius has forever trapped that poised moment when the soul first looks out of the eyes of a child. The original painting is now hanging in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and is considered one of their most admired paintings. Born in 1869 at Spuyten Duyvil, N.Y. Pupil of Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts under Eakins; Art Student's League of New York; Ecole des Beaux Arts, Julian Academy, and Luc Oliver Merson in Paris, Director Yale School of Fine Arts.
