Antique flow-blue luncheon plate by New Wharf Pottery Lancaster. Round scalloped shape. Floral pattern around rim & well in flow blue, center sprig. Delicate relief star & dot border.
Ribbon, crown & knot backstamp "Lancaster New Wharf Pottery England". Printed mark 1890-1894". Hallmark found on page 94 from Kovels' New Dictionary of Marks by Ralph & Terry Kovel. Burslem, Staffordshire, England.
Also embedded mark in the china plate: 506 E 10.
It measures 9" wide. Tiny underside edge chip as shown. No crazing from age, on close inspection it does show utensil scuffs in usage on front. As you can see on one edge there is an edge nick/chip. From that on the back side only has colored the china from the chip.
Great deep blue design. The name describes the blurred or flowing effect of the cobalt decoration, achieved through the introduction of a chemical vapor into the kiln. The body of the ware is ironstone.
Selling this item "as-is". Great to add to your Flow Blue Collection.
