Louisville University - Line Drawing of 1890's Campus
This is an original, one of a kind, large, directional line drawing. I am assuming that this might have been the start of the campus which became the University of Louisville. All the lines are drawn on a horizontal plane. The artist used varying distance between the lines to give the feeling of darker and lighter details. It has been dry mounted with wax onto a 1/4" mounting board. This keeps the drawing in great shape but also prevents me from seeing what is on the back of the drawing. The mounting wax has given the front of the drawing a slight sheen. The original drawing was, at some time, hung by a nail. There is a tiny pinhole in the top center which is 1/32" in size if even that large. I took the drawing out of the frame for inspection. There are a few 'chips' along the edges of the drawing paper but only 2 that I see inside the framed area. The others are under the frame. There are also 4 tiny splotches where someone may have dripped a couple of tiny drops onto the paper. At one time, someone has had this drawing framed at the Framing Express which has been in business since 1975. The frame is a lovely combination of black satin finished metal which has a tiny metallic gold line painted on an outer edge. Toward the inner edge there is a 1" strip of what looks like cherry wood. I think that the strip is wood but the cherry might just be a stain on a lighter wood. The owners of this 'Louisville University' drawing...
