1002
Your Baby-1950-How To Raise Baby Magazine The Pet Milk Company put out this book to local hospitals to be given to new mothers in 1950. It is full of little tidbits on how to take care of a baby.
It explains about planning your housework, etc. around having a baby, encourages regular doctor visits and discusses feeding. It discusses the need to keep the child clean, explains teething and how to protect the child from harm. It has an article headed: 'There are no bad children' which discusses how to behave with your child. Here is an excerpt: "Since you want your baby to feel safe, loved, and happy, do hold and fondle him a few minutes each day. It will give him that sense of security which is so necessary to his best development."
There is also a place where a mother can put Baby's Firsts, Gifts, Birth Record, etc. These are all blank. It offers several different receipes for making soft foods and drinks such as: Cereal Gruel, Plain Malted Milk, Meat Broth, Spiced Milk, Ice Creams, Cambric Tea and many more. These receipes are all from scratch with most using Pet Milk.
The book itself is in very good condition for its age. There is a fold crease in the upper right hand corner on the cover and the next page. There is a tear on the back near the upper right hand corner but this is lays cleaning so is not distracting. There is a musty smell when you open the book as though it may have been stored in a basement.
The book measures 8 1/4" high by 5 1/2" wide.
The book does advertise Pet Milk but very discreetly. It is mostly the 1950 way of thinking about children and family. There are darling pictures of children and on the back is an advertisment for a TV program called The All-Star Revue starring people like Jimmy Durante and Danny Thomas along with advertising a radio show featuring Fibber McGee and Molly plus someone who gave out receipes of the week.

1003
Parent's Magazine's 1948 Baby Care Manual This is an interesting old magazine in many ways. It has a lot of advertising featuring only newborn to toddler stage products which are done in a refreshing style-a lot of them are quite charming.
This is what Parent's Magazine had to say about itself: "Parents' Magazine, published monthly, is read in more than 1,150,000 conscientious American homes. It gives help in the thousand and one problems that arise in connection with the rearing of children from crib to college. It tells in an interesting and practical way of the sussessfull child rearing methods used by other parents and presents the latest findings and sound guidance of leading child specialists."
This magazine was given to new mothers before leaving the hospital.
The book measures 11" high and is 8" wide. It has some yellowing and a musty smell. There is slight corner creasing but otherwise it is in very good condition for its age. None of the charts have been written in.

Leather Collar or Sm. Hat Box-Old This leather box measures 5 3/4" around and is 3 1/4" high and weighs 8 oz.
The top of the box has an impressed design showing two unicorns with a crown and shield and motto banner. The underside of the box has a hand written maker name which says: E.D. Lidstone, 1706, San Francisco, Cala. There is an impressed #295.
The lid to the box has stitching that has come undone but is not torn. On one side of the box there is an old vertical 'ding' and there are various small old scratch type marks along the exterior. The interior lid has two areas that appear to be moisture stains and three dark 'spots' that may be marks of some kind but are difficult to make out.
I'm not sure of the age of this box. I think the number 1706 may be an address but it is quite possibly the age of the box as well.
Any good leather worker or shoe maker could easily stitch up the lid and you'd have a nice treasure from the past.

2 Pr. Old Eye Glasses in Original Case These are quaint looking old eyeglasses. One pair are plastic lensed sun glasses. I'm not sure if they are intended to be used alone or actually sit on the other glasses.
The other pair has real glass perscription lenses. These are very lightly scratched in a few places and are dirty but otherwise, would still be usable. They appear to be about a 2x on the power scale.
The case has seen better days but is still serviceable. It either belonged to or came from a A.F. Inson [as near as I can make out because it's faded], Newport, Wash.
Circa: 1920's
Type: Eye Glasses
Country of Origin: US
