Bigger and nicer that the usual Victorian half-moon pin, this one test gold (below 10K), is 1 1/2 inches (about twice the size of the usual goldfilled little crescents) and beautifully crafted.

Even the C clasp and hinge are gold and the clasp has a reinforcing bar. Little clover leaves in the open spaces are solid, showing on the back. Red stone may be a garnet and is set with 6 sturdy prongs.
