This necklace and earring set always makes me think of sugar plums! The two strand necklace is composed of graduated dark pink beads covered with tiny glass globules named "ballottini". They are not glued but are molten (or fired)upon the surface of the bead. It looks as if it was dipped in sugar! Interspersed with the ballottini beads are purple aurora borealis and chunky lavender satin glass beads.Between each large bead are diamond shaped, red or lavender crystals accented with small gold beads. The matching clip-on earrings are set with a purple & red "a.b." rhinestones and 2 ballonttini beads that are glued on to the gold metal.<p> The necklace is adjustable with a hook clasp. It measures 18 inches (from clasp to end bead). The earrings are 1"x1" with a clip-on back.<p> Although the necklace is not marked the exquisite beads can be attributed to the "Gablonz" (Czech or Bohemian) beadmakers and was made in the 1950's.It is a magnificent example of their bead craftmanship!<p>It is in almost new condition for its age. The only visible flaw is some tarnish under the end caps of the ballottini beads. |
