VICTORIAN Rose Gold-Filled Flower Engraved Hinged Bangle Bracelet This polished rose tone gold-filled bangle from the Victorian era is engraved with sprightly flowers and leaves. The circa 1890 tubular bangle is 3/16" wide and has an inner diameter of 2 ¼". The flowers are engraved all around the bangle against a dainty textured background resembling tree bark.

The hinged clasp has a spring-loaded ball and the bangle closes automatically when you release the two sides. To open, just press the tiny button at the opening. A hallmark of "W.M. C" is stamped on the inside near the hinge. This antique bracelet is in wonderful condition with no dents or loss of surface finish.

Click for more detail...

Antique C1890 Aesthetic Movement Japan Style Stickpin with Org. Velvet Box This circa 1890 Japanese gilt brass stickpin shows the Eastern influence on jewelry design during the Aesthetic Movement of the late 19th century when naturalism and asymmetry were favored. The stickpin’s loosely oval top is ¾" high and a little more than ½" wide and has a dark golden finish over brass. The intentionally oxidized design of clouds is set with three bright rose pink glass cabochons. The characters below may be a form of good luck; I could only translate one as a sort of blessing in modern Chinese (which is related to an older Japan language system used prior to 1900.)

The full height of the stickpin is 2 5/8" and the side of the shaft has a partial stamp of maker’s hallmark which is not decipherable. The stickpin is in lovely condition with no damage and the only wear to the gilding being on the upper part of the pin shaft.

This special accessory comes in a box which itself is a special display item. It is blue velvet with a satin-lined lid showing the jeweler’s name and address. The bottom is a darker blue velvet with a pocket for the stickpin (which could hold other pins too!). It closes with a push clasp, the button is carved mother-of-pearl shell. The box, too, is in super condition with no evidence of wear.

Click for more detail...

C1865 VICTORIAN Etruscan Revival DOUBLE Locket with Hardstone Cameo This circa 1865 Victorian rolled-gold or gold-filled double locket is surmounted by a hand-carved gemstone cameo depicting an ancient Roman warrior. The ornate locket measures 1 1/8" high, 7/8" wide, and 5/8" deep. The bail adds 5/8" to the height. The front has an Etruscan style border of tiny balls and wire-work scallops. The central well is framed by a polished rose-gold frame within which sets a wire-work diamond-design centered by the bezel-set cameo. This cameo is very finely carved—I took a magnified view so you can appreciate the detail that is often not found in carvings ten times its size.

The locket has a "bloomed" finish: a soft, matte appearance that was popular in the period. The interior has two compartments with original picture frames and glasses! Each will hold a photo of 1" by 11/16". The colorful waffle paper inserts that came with the locket are included.

A later-period, gold-filled chain with two rope-twist strands, 17 ¼" in length, is included; it closes with a spring-ring clasp stamped 1/20 14K GF." The bail can accommodate a thicker chain up to 5mm diameter, strand of beads or pearls, or a ribbon (I particularly like the romance of that look).

This Civil War era locket is in wonderful condition and is certainly worthy of heirloom care. It possesses the quality and design of a fine jewelry piece and will garner many a compliment.

Click for more detail...

SUPERB C1875 VICTORIAN Two Color GF Double Photo Locket on Book Chain Necklace This is an outstanding Victorian double photo locket with double interior compartments and an equally noteworthy ornate two-color gold-filled book-chain link necklace with tiers of links that make it a unique jewel unto itself.

The dimensional chain is 19 ¼" long, ½" wide, and 3/16" thick. The oval links are yellow with polished rims and centers over ribbed backgrounds. The alternating geometric links are rose pink tone with polished lattice designs. The under-layer is composed of angled, ribbed, yellow-tone oval rings. The necklace closes with an old-style rose-tone spring ring which not only secures the chain but holds the bail of the locket too.

Oval in shape, the locket has an impressive size at 11/2" in height (not including bail), 1" in width, and 5/8" in depth. The central ornament has a rose-pink, polished diamond panel above and below and is cinched with an engraved rose, domed band (into which one could even slip a few thin flower stems!). The bloomed yellow gold matte finish of the exterior of the locket is contrasted with a polished raised band (on the back too) and is edged in another raised band simulating rope links.

Inside is a delightful surprise: two compartments each containing their original frames, waffle-print paper liners, and glass inserts. Both will hold a photo measuring 1 5/16" by 13/16".

The chain and locket date to about 1875 and are in wonderful condition. I have not polished them as I believe original patina should be left on antique jewelry. Both functional and fabulously feminine, this Victorian sentimental locket is an heirloom-quality jewel.

Click for more detail...

Antique Grand SCOTTISH Multicolor Agate Oversized Brooch in Bold Scrolled Frame This magnificent antique Scottish agate brooch is like a miniature landscape painted by Mother Nature herself and mounted fittingly by a fine jeweler in a bold gold-filled frame befitting its grandeur.

The oval tablet of agate is remarkable for its size and coloration. It measures 2 1/8" by 1 5/8". The diverse hues include ocher, ivory, deep purple, amber brown and spicy red flecks. Depending on the way you position the brooch, you may imagine a waterfall tumbling through a rocky canyon or maybe an aerial view of a whitewater river cutting across fields of lavender and amber wildflowers.

The tablet is held with six fancy fluted prongs within a bezel mouthing. The outer frame is composed of a double layer of gold-filled metal with cursive "E" scrolls and beaded accents The total overall dimensions are just under 3" by 2 ½" by a little over ¼" deep.

The pin shaft extends a little beyond the actual stone bezel in the style popular in the 19th century yet does not go beyond the frame. It secures with a C clasp. There is patination to the gold but no breaks or dents. The agate is in wonderful condition; it has a few natural tiny pores yet no chips, scratches or flakes. I have not polished the brooch.

You could certainly slip a chain through the pin to wear the brooch as a pendant in the vertical orientation. Or, in the horizontal view, place two rings on one of the scallops to support a chain and transform the brooch into a pendant—what an impact that would make! (I showed it here on a modernist brass neck ring for a new/old pairing). No matter how you display it, this circa 1880 brooch is exquisite and will be a piece you wear proudly and in admiring company.

Click for more detail...

VICTORIAN Etruscan Revival Grape Leaves & Paste 2-Color GF Double Locket This circa 1880 two-tone gold- filled double locket has an ornate lid decorated with leaves and a beautiful blue paste jewel rimmed with Etruscan Revival bead- and wire-work. The locket is 1 ½" not including the ring above nor the hanging bail; width is 1 1/8" and depth is 5/8".

The grape leaves have stippled surfaces and alternate rose or pink gold finish with yellow finish. In the center is a tanzanite lavender-blue color "grape" facetted prong-set crystal. These leaves lay on a bloomed gold surface surrounded by a raised, smooth rose gold border. The locket’s perimeter is an Etruscan Revival border of beaded wire scallops in yellow gold finish with rose gold raised circles. Such intricacy elevates the locket to a real artwork.

The side hinge opens 90 degrees. Both compartments have their original glass covers which are securely mounted in gold-filled frames, easily accessible thru notches in the bottom of the locket panels: no more chipped nails! I have not polished the locket, I prefer original patina in antique jewelry. Condition is very fine with no damage and only very light surface wear.

The period rolo link gold-filled or rolled gold chain is 24" with a spring-ring clasp and is in lovely condition.

This Victorian locket is truly beautiful and is worthy of being a family heirloom, any woman would be proud to wear this.

Click for more detail...

Antique European Carved Ivory Full Stemmed Rose Pendant on G.F. Chain This exquisite hand-carved antique ivory rose pendant has the most intricate detail I have encountered in a carved flower! Not only is the full-bloom rose deeply cut with layers of petals, but they furl back upon themselves. The leaves have serrated edges and multiple veins in their centers, the chubby buds show the layers of their young petals in the curled, frisee’ edges, and the stems even have thorns! The deeply dimensional pendant measures 2" high by 1 1/4". The large bail is itself 5/8" high with a generous inner opening of 1/8".

The natural graining can be easily viewed on the bail. The back of the pendant is polished and has some original pricing information in pencil The condition is as excellent as the master carving. The quality suggests the piece may have originated in Dieppe, France, which for centuries was home to artists who possessed legendary ivory-carving skills.

I have included an old-stock 24 ¼" long 12K gold-filled fancy-link chain with a spring-ring clasp. The ivory pendant looks stunning on a simple black ribbon as it may have originally been worn if you should choose to try that too.

Click for more detail...

Etruscan Revival VICTORIAN Civil War G.F. Photo Locket with Natural Pearls This Civil War period Victorian locket is full of intricate Etruscan Revival details: individually applied wire-twist rays and circles, spheres, polished arrows, and a pair central wired scrolls hugging the raised band of pearls. The deep locket measures 1 3/16" long (or 1 7/8" with bail) by 7/8" wide and ½" deep. The face is richly adorned and centered with a horizontal domed bridge holding three bead-set natural pearls with lustrous iridescent tones of blue and lavender. The locket’s back is smooth, bloomed gold with a polished, raised band.

Inside, both frames have their original rose gold-filled ovals; one has the original glass insert, one has a plastic replacement. When the locket was new, photography was too and such a lovely jeweled pendant as this was a special way to honor a loved one far away—if they could afford the trip to the city to sit for a portrait. The frames will hold oval photos of 15/16" by 5/8".

The interwoven link, gold-filled chain is 18" in length and is an unused 1950’s old-store stock piece; it closes with a spring-ring clasp and tab stamped "1/20 12KGF." The locket would also look divine on a string or pearls or a simple ribbon of your choice. The condition of this antique locket is splendid with no damage.

Click for more detail...

Victorian 14K Rose Gold Stickpin with Fiery Opal & Seed Pearls This antique Victorian era stickpin is made of cast 14K rose or pink gold and set with a small cabochon as well as six tiny seed pearls. The pin length is 2 3/8" and the flower head is 7/16" wide. The petals were patinated to enhance the whiteness of the pearls. The polished opal sphere has very fine fire and color dispersion. The pin shaft has a fine incised spiral along its length to better grip fine silk cravats or lace scarves. There is no maker’s mark on this circa 1890 stickpin but it does test as 14K gold. The condition is very fine and the quality of the gold work in this dainty Victorian piece is as well.

Click for more detail...

C1860 Victorian Etruscan Revival 2-Tone Gold-Filled Bar Pin This dainty Victorian era bar pin is rendered in two tones and features a line of lucky clovers within two circular-capped ends. The bar is 2 1/4" long and 7/16" wide. The clovers and the arcs at each end are polished rose-gold filled or gold-plated finish, the remainder of the pin has a "bloomed" matte finish yellow. Tiny bosses (balls) and minute sun-rays on the ends are very fine in detail and show no damage. The overall finish has darkened slightly but I prefer not to polish antiques of this period, circa 1860.

The silver color metal pin shaft secures under a wide curled clasp. Originally worn at the collar or to secure a lace scarf or fichu is in wonderful condition and adds a grace worn singly in or in small groupings.

Click for more detail...

Superb C1880 High Victorian 14K Gold & Carved Coral Festoon Garland Necklace This exceptional circa 1880 High Victorian 14K gold festoon or garland necklace is adorned with four hand-carved natural coral rosebuds. The necklace boasts three multi-tier pendants of gold circles with fluted centers and fine wire-work scroll borders. Each is hung with a polished terminal of gold in the shape of capped marquise. A rosebud in the center of each of these circles compliments the natural pinkish hue of the gold. These roses are set on steel studs, not merely applied with an adhesive. The scrolls and applied wreaths are yellow gold. The central circular pendant is topped with an ornately stamped surmount which is fitted with more wire-work scrolls, two terminals, and a large full-bloom coral rose in the center. A network of fine gold chains joins the three pendants in a most elegant fashion. I have taken extra close-ups so that you many enjoy the details in this marvelous piece.

The inner length of the necklace is 14 ½" and the central pendant falls about 2 5/8" below the chain. The pendant closes with a spring-ring clasp stamped 14K and the pendants themselves test positive as 14K gold in purity. The circa 1880 necklace is in wonderful condition with no damage and no repairs. I have not polished it. Truly, it is not often one comes upon a delightful feminine garland necklace like this and the rosebuds give it all the more charm. This is worthy of the label "heirloom."

This is an estate consignment item.

Click for more detail...

Victorian C1865 Hair Memento Pin Set in Gold & Crystal This circa 1865 Victorian gold and crystal pin encloses both woven hair and an curled lock in memory of a loved one. The octagonal mounting measures 1 1/8" wide by 15"16 high. The cut-crystal top is free of scratches (the light curved line in center is a brown hair that is not nearly so evident in-person). This beveled top reveals the tightly woven background and the silky brown lock that rests upon it.

The gold frame doesn’t quite meet the 10K test so I believe it is 9K—it shows no sign of worn plating at the edges. It has an extended pin shaft which is clasped with a C-closure. There are a few very shallow indents and a darker spot on the back of the case only.

Such pieces were often made by women to give to loved ones as a way to say "keep me near" and could also be used as memorials of those who had passed. The size of this pin makes it ideal to be worn at a collar, on a lace scarf, or the lapel of a suit jacket.

Antique ARTS & CRAFTS 10K Gold & Gem Stickpin with Pearls Those who collect or are at all familiar with Arts & Crafts jewelry know that there is not an abundance of it and jewelry collectors prize the evocative designs from the period. This antique 10K yellow gold stickpin has a large head set with a uniquely cut curved triangle gem, smoky quartz or citrine, and accented with four natural seed pearls in graduated sizes. The total length is 2 3/8" and the width is 5/8" at the top of the sensuous open design. There is one tiny nick on a facet junction on the side (not the face of the gem); otherwise, the condition is very fine. The pin shaft is stamped "10K" with a maker’s hallmark. This circa 1900 stick pin is useful in securing a scarf or lace collar or accenting even the filmiest of blouses—feminine and eternally lovely.

C1900 Victorian Gibson Girl Cameo in Sterling Filigree Heart Band Frame This Victorian "Gibson Girl" style shell cameo brooch depicts a gorgeous young woman with an enviable full head of naturally wavy locks. The carnelian shell cameo is 1 3/8" high and is bezel-mounted within a frame of the most intricate band of filigree hearts! Even the side ornaments—resembling butterfly wings—and the top and bottom inserts are filigree. And I love how the portrait completely fills the frame—the artist certainly made beautiful use of the shell and gives us much to admire. Her wide collar drapes fluidly around her neck and shoulders and is adorned with a cluster of blossoms on her left shoulder. The frame is not marked but tests as sterling purity. The pin is secured with a safety clasp. As you can see, the condition of the shell cameo is pristine and she is unquestionably a beauty!

Victorian 14K Rose Goldl & Pearl Pinwheel Flower Pin This circa 1880 Victorian 14K gold pin has a light-hearted design of a pinwheel or open flower whose petals are set with natural half-pearls. The pinwheel is 1" in diameter and has a rosy hue (sometimes called pink gold) contrasted by a 4mm genuine pearl. The pin shaft is silver, the clasp is a rose-gold C shape. There are no markings on the piece (as was typical of many pieces of jewelry in the period, especially if they were made domestically) yet the piece tests as 14K gold purity. This perky pinwheel is in very fine condition and is an eternally elegant form.
