I’ve always been drawn to cut steel; it has a subtle luster and certainly great durability for a Victorian novelty material. This unusually long bar pin is 3 5/8" across and ˝" high. A combination of rosettes and s-curves stamped from polished steel are riveted to a brass backing. The pin closes with an old style c-clasp. All the steel ornaments are present, one end piece has a crack though both tips are firmly in place. Cut steel jewelry was popular during the mid 19th century and as its brilliance was considered appropriate for daytime wear. |
