This circa 1890 sterling bar pin balances tapering spirals of silver on either side of a large faceted amethyst gemstone. The pin measures 2 3/8" wide and 11/16" high. The pale lilac amethyst has an approximate weight of 7.6 carats and no eye-visible inclusions. The soft shade makes the pin a near-neutral jewel and the unique design—reminiscent of the popular Victorian entwined snakes love motif-- lends an almost Celtic feeling. The pin shaft secures with a C-clasp. This poetic antique bar pin is in excellent condition. |
