This circa 1925 sterling silver heart encases a beguiling tropical island scene hand-painted on genuine morpho butterfly wing. Imagine the care taken to not only carefully cut and frame the wings but paint a tiny scene upon them too! The pendant measures 1 1/8" high (not including the bail) and 1" wide.

Two palm trees lean out into the ocean as waves lap the island’s shoreline; birds wing their way homeward as an orange sun slides into orange waves.
The back of the pendant is stamped "Hoffman Sterling" and the bail is also stamped "Sterling." A newer 16" chain with spring-ring clasp completes the necklace.
These magical creations became popular thanks to the 1924 British Empire Exhibition where the Thomas Mott Company displayed their striking butterfly wing jewelry. This piece is in wonderful condition with brilliant iridescence.
