This carved Bakelite pendant necklace by Richelieu is a fabulous find for several reasons: Bakelite from the latter part of 20th century is not common; Richelieu is not known for bold, modern design; and any Bakelite item with an original maker’s tag is rare.

The fig-form, flat-based, marbled caramel and chocolate Bakelite pendant is 1 5/8" high and is carved six with spiraling incised vertical lines. Atop the pendant is a rhodium-plated rhinestone rondelle. The neck cord is lustrous black rayon, knotted just above the rondelle. It’s 33 ½" in length including the silver-tone spring-ring clasp. The "Richelieu" silver foil tag is attached. I have one of these pendants in black but never knew who made it till I found this one. The necklace is in excellent, unworn condition and the pendant does test very positive as Bakelite. It is rather weighty but also has a nice feel in the hands, like a warm worry stone with sparkle!
