This adorable vintage carved Bakelite pin is unusual not only for its cute subject: a bushy-tailed squirrel with a nut—but also its rare burgundy wine color.
The bar measures 1 ¾" wide by just under ½" high and 3/16" thick. Ms. Squirrel is 2 3/8" high and 1 ½" wide. The Bakelite is pierced to separate the tail from the body of the squirrel and incised to delineate the ear, front paw, and leg. A brass ring connects the bar to Ms. Squirrel. The nickel pin shaft has a safety clasp. This circa 1935 pin does test very positive as Bakelite and is in excellent condition.
