This vintage necklace is made of three strands of marbled Bakelite beads in various shades of chocolate brown, yum! The center strand is made of graduated "milk chocolate" beads with medium golden swirls and beads that range from 5 to 12mm; the two other strands are strung with dark chocolate 7mm beads. All the strands are strung on two lengths of dark brown cord.
The Bakelite beads are interspersed with translucent glass seed beads. Brass connectors join the three stands near the clasp. This half-dome clasp has a concealed hook on the back which allows you to slip it over the extender chain on the opposite side of the necklace. When you do so, the beads fall evenly on each side of your neck for a finished look. (If you have a dress with a low-cut back, you could even reverse the beads!) All the strands test positive as Bakelite, the milk chocolate beads a little more strongly.
