This dramatic period Art Deco pendant necklace juxtaposes a genuine lavender amethyst with glossy black enamel on sterling for the high-impact look favored by the flappers of the 1920s. The pendant itself is 1 ¼" high and 7/8"; the height with the fancy pierced bail is 1 11/16".
The oval amethyst is faceted and prong-set.

If you look closely at the lower left, you can see natural inclusions or growth lines of the crystal—the equivalent of "beauty marks." The sterling rectangular frame has nipped corners and is finished on the outer edge as well as around the amethyst with a beaded stamped border. The back of the pendant is stamped "Sterling."
The pendant hangs from two lengths of sterling oval chain which create a necklace of inner diameter of about 16 ½" including the spring-ring clasp which is stamped "Sterling." The necklace is in excellent condition and has a striking presence—all the more so since it’s a genuine, untreated, gemstone, not colored glass as was--and is--so often used.
